Rescue dog in the news

Check out this amazing story of a Victoria Adoptables rescue dog that swam across Enterprise Channel to come back to Victoria!  And he's a lab/shepherd cross like me!

The open spaces of Trial Island, B.C., might be paradise for most dogs, but one canine apparently found life at a lighthouse a little too quiet for his taste. Earlier this week, Malcolm, a 10-year-old Labrador-shepherd cross, swam 400 metres back to Victoria through the uncertain waters of Enterprise Channel. Nancy Besharah found a cold, disoriented Malcolm while jogging and phoned Carol Broad of Victoria Adoptables Dog Rescue. Five days earlier, Malcolm had happily gone with assistant lighthouse keeper Mike Robinson and was, as far as Ms. Broad knew, in something close to doggie heaven on 25 hectares of unfenced land on Trial Island. "Maybe he got bored. There are only two people on the island and a 16-year-old dog, so maybe the pace was too slow," said Ms. Broad, who is now desperately looking for a home for Malcolm where he won't be tempted to go for marathon Swims.

The Graduate

Today was my graduation from Smart Dog Training!  Since beginning my classes, I've learned to sit, stand, lie down, come when called, stay, stop tugging on the leash, and my favourite trick-- shaking hands!  Plus I've become a more social dog thanks to the lessons.  Thanks, Carol, I couldn't have done it with out you!!

Today was the first day since my adoption that mom and dad let go of my leash.

Finally, I could run as much as I wanted.  Mom and dad were worried I might run away, but I didn't run away.  I came back when I was called, just like we practice every day.
